Mr. Vachss relentlessly and courageously defends children in his law practice and indirectly via his novels. His gritty books have been translated into twenty languages and his work has appeared in Parade, Antaeus, Esquire and The New York Times. He is a participant in my Keepers of the Spirit Portrait Exhibit.

Outlaws, outcasts, society's discarded and "invisibles" comprise Mr. Vachss' core characters. They none the less embody an uncommon dignity, integrity and personal heroism. They refuse to be crushed by traumatic experiences. The Spirit radiates through them.
